How to Care for Wool? Care Instructions
Caring for your Eurowolle products is the key to preserving their health-supporting qualities for years to come. Remember: pure, living wool is a natural fiber. It doesn’t need frequent washing—by nature it repels dirt and refreshes beautifully when aired in fresh air.
But when it’s time to freshen it up, follow the guidelines below. Think of it as a home SPA ritual for your duvet.
Golden Rules (What you need to know)
-
Wool likes to be alone (Sorting): Never wash wool items together with other laundry. Keep them separate from coloured fabrics, heavily soiled items, or anything with sharp hardware (zippers, buttons).
-
Your care roadmap is on the label (Symbols): Always check the care tag. It contains the binding guidelines for temperature and drying methods.
-
No spinning: Wool must not be spin-dried or wrung out. Centrifugal force can permanently felt the delicate fleece.
-
Shade, not sun: Always dry products laid out flat in an airy place, away from direct sunlight. UV rays can dry out the fibers.
-
The iron is your enemy: Under no circumstances should wool products be ironed.
The Hand-Washing Ritual (Step by step)
The safest method for wool is a gentle water bath. To do it correctly—and to avoid “thermal shock”—follow these precise guidelines:
Step 1: Water. Prepare a bathtub or a large basin with lukewarm water. Temperature is crucial: it must be 20–25°C. This cool bath helps prevent wool from shrinking.
Step 2: The right cleanser. Add our specialist Lanolin Liquid (ratio: 50–100 ml per 10 liters of water). Regular detergents can strip wool of its natural oils, leaving it rough.
Step 3: Soaking. Submerge the duvet and leave it in the water for about 60 minutes. During this time, gently turn it over and lightly press it. Let the lanolin soak into the fiber structure.
Step 4: Rinsing. Rinse the product in water at exactly the same temperature as the wash. A sudden change in water temperature is the most common mistake—and it damages wool.
Step 5: Draining. Don’t wring it out. Let the water drip out on its own, or gently press it. Dry flat in a well-ventilated area.
Stain Removal (The “Foam Only” Method)
A small mishap? You don’t need to wash the whole duvet. Try spot cleaning instead:
- Prepare a solution: 50 ml of Lanolin Liquid per 5 liters of water.
- Create a thick foam.
- Apply only the foam (not the water) to the stain using a slightly damp sponge or cloth.
- Wait 5–10 minutes for the lanolin to work.
- Wipe the area clean and rinse gently.
How to Nourish Wool? (Recommendation)
Wool needs lanolin just as your skin needs a moisturiser. Regular washing powder is the worst thing you can do to it.
