How to Care for Wool? Care Instructions
Caring for your Eurowolle products is the key to preserving their health-giving qualities for years to come. Remember: pure, living wool is a natural material. It doesn’t need frequent washing—by nature it repels dirt and refreshes itself when exposed to fresh air.
When it’s time to freshen it up, follow the guidelines below. Think of it as a home SPA ritual for your duvet.
Golden Rules (What You Need to Know)
-
Wool likes being alone (Sorting): Never wash wool items with other laundry. Keep them separate from coloured fabrics, heavily soiled items, or anything with sharp hardware (zips, buttons).
-
Your care label is your roadmap (Symbols): Always check the label. That’s where you’ll find the essential instructions for temperature and drying methods.
-
No spinning: Wool must not be spun or wrung out. Centrifugal force can permanently felt the delicate fleece.
-
Shade, not sunshine: Always dry products laid out flat, in a well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. UV rays can dry out the fibres.
-
The iron is the enemy: Never iron wool products under any circumstances.
Hand-Washing Ritual (Step by Step)
The safest method for wool is a gentle water bath. To do it properly—and to avoid “thermal shock” to your duvet—stick to these precise guidelines:
Step 1: Water. Prepare a bathtub or a large basin with lukewarm water. Temperature is crucial: it should be 20–25°C. This cool bath helps prevent wool from shrinking.
Step 2: The right product. Add our specialist Lanolin Wash (ratio: 50–100 ml per 10 litres of water). Regular detergents can strip wool of its natural oils, leaving it rough.
Step 3: Soaking. Submerge the duvet and leave it in the water for about 60 minutes. During this time, gently turn it over and lightly press it. Let the lanolin sink into the fibre structure.
Step 4: Rinsing. Rinse the product in water at exactly the same temperature as the wash. A sudden temperature change is the most common mistake—and one that damages wool.
Step 5: Draining. Don’t wring it out! Let the water drip away on its own, or gently press. Dry flat in a well-ventilated place.
Stain Removal (The “Foam Only” Method)
A small mishap? You don’t need to wash the entire duvet. Try spot cleaning:
- Make a solution: 50 ml Lanolin Wash per 5 litres of water.
- Create a rich foam.
- Apply only the foam (not the water) to the stain using a slightly damp sponge or cloth.
- Wait 5–10 minutes for the lanolin to work.
- Wipe with a clean area and rinse gently.
What Does Wool “Feed” On? (Recommendation)
Wool needs lanolin the way your skin needs moisturiser. Regular washing powder is the worst thing you can do to it.
For care, we recommend: Eurowolle Lanolin Laundry Liquid
Created not only to cleanse, but also to protect and preserve.
- Replenishes natural lanolin where it’s been lost.
- Protects the fibre structure from breaking.
- Keeps it soft and resilient for years.
